SHILLONG: Miffed with the proposed move of the State Government to cancel the implementation of the Meghalaya Rural Development Scheme (MRDS) in the State, the farming community has threatened to file a petition in the High Court against the State Government.

Speaking at the meeting held here in the city on Tuesday, SHG East Khasi Hills District chairman, Tourist Khonglah, said more than two thousand self help groups (SHGs) of farmers in the State would be greatly affected if the state government goes ahead with its proposed move to stop the implementation of the MRDS.

He also pointed out that the scheme has gone a long way in benefitting the farmers’ community under the different SHGs in the State.

“If the MRDS is being successfully implemented in the State, where is the logic to cancel this scheme,” a SHG leader from Jaintia Hills, Roibha Sayo, said.

The farmers have asked the State Government to reconsider its decision on the matter.
