NEHU State Resource Centre bags prestigious award

SHILLONG: The State Resource Centre of the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) has been awarded the prestigious Saakshar Bharat Award 2013 for its outstanding performance in the field of Adult Education.

The Award was given by the National Literacy Mission Authority, and the same was handed over by President Pranab Mukherjee on the occasion of International Literacy Day at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on September 8.

The NEHU State Resource Centre is the only SRC from among the thirty-two centres across the country to be chosen for this award.

The Award was received by Director of SRC NEHU, B Laltanpuia and Pro V-C, NEHU, Tura Campus, Prof. Eugene D Thomas, who is also the Vice-Chairman of the NEHU SRC.

Other officials from Meghalaya who attended the function included Parliamentary Secretary WD Sangma, Education Secretary FR Kharkongor, HOD, Education Department, NEHU, Prof. C Nongbri and Prof. Natalie West Kharkongor and Prof. Giri, both faculties of IIM Shillong.
