SHILLONG: The Rs 22 crore slaughter house at Mawlai Mawiong is likely to be completed within December.

“We are trying to complete the project within December. So far more than 70 percent work of the project has been completed,” official sources said here on Thursday.

According to sources, a tentative deadline has been kept to formally commission the project in December.

Earlier, the then Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, BM Lanong, after a spot inspection of the on-going construction work in January last, had informed that the project would be completed by April saying that only 20 per cent of the work was left to be completed.

Reacting to a query on the opposition of the two Dorbar Shnongs in Mawiong, official sources said that a case has been filed against the department by the Dorbar Shnong last year but there has been no follow up in this regard. The abattoir would have a capacity of 160 large animals, 240 pigs and 240 small animals (goats) per day.
