SHILLONG: As part of the on-going collaboration between the Government of Meghalaya and the German Development Cooperation, the German Government has launched an initiative to attract highly qualified foreign professionals from the field of Science and Technology to work in German industries to meet the current and anticipated shortage of skilled workers in the country and in Meghalaya.

The project ‘Make It In Germany’ was launched by Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economics and Technology along with the Federal Ministry for Labour and Social Affairs early in 2013 in India, Indonesia and Vietnam via an information portal with an aim to present the employment opportunities for qualified Indian workers who are interested in living and working in Germany.

German Development Cooperation is engaged with the Government of Meghalaya in several on-going initiatives including the Technical Cooperation project Climate Change Adaptation in the North-Eastern Region of India (CCA-NER) with its regional office in Shillong.

An information session was organised for scholars and students of the National Institute of Technology, Meghalaya, by the local advisor to the project in India on Thursday, where students were given key information on the current employment opportunities for specified occupations and potential for opportunities for Indian students from specified professions of Science, Technology, Information Technology and Mathematics in the coming years.

Important information on the current initiative, about living and working in Germany including the application process formed part of the presentation.
