Agartala: North East India’s biggest and most modern jail would be inaugurated on October 2 at Goutam Nagar in Tripura’s Sipahijala district.
The new jail constructed on 32.62 acre at a cost of Rs 62 crore would accommodate 975 prisoners, Jail minister Manindra Lal Reang said on Friday.
The high security jail was fitted with a computerised CC TV network which would would be able to keep watch on every nook and corner of the prison complex, Reang said. It would be the second most modern jail in the country after Bengaluru. All facilities for prisoners would be available,” he told reporters here. Reang had visited the jail with Chief Secretary S K Panda and other officials on Thrusday. The jail would be inaugurated by Chief Minister Manik Sarkar.
The Agartala Central jail would be dismantled and a science college would be constructed in its place, officials said. (PTI)
Meira Kumar to attend Tripura House golden jubilee
Agartala: Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar would participate in the Golden Jubilee celebration of Tripura Assembly on September 18. The Lok Sabha Speaker would arrive in the state on a three day visit on September 18. “During her stay she would participate in the golden jubilee celebration of the assembly on September 18,” Dy Speaker of the assembly Pabitra Kar said.
