SHILLONG: A businessman from Borsora in West Khasi Hills has filed a petition with the Additional District Magistrate, Mawkyrwat demanding action against officer in charge Borsora police outpost, Bablu R Marak for allegedly threatening him and acting against him at the behest of a Delhi-based businessman who bribed the cop.

Accompanied by his lawyer, PK Bora, the victimized businessman told newsman on Saturday that the Delhi-based Dilbag Nashier bribed Marak to force him to sign an agreement to pay Rs 9 Lakh to the former for no reason.

Hari Sarkar has been running a mechanical workshop business in Borsora Bazaar.

The lawyer Bora said on August 27 they filed a legal complaint to the Additional District Magistrate, Mawkyrwat who had given a date of September 5 to visit the area. But the same could not materialize due to the bandh on that date.

Informing that Sarkar had filed a complaint against the sub-inspector for issuing threats and assault, Bora said that Marak later arrested Sarkar who was assaulted in the lock-up.

“Marak threatened Sarkar to withdraw the case,” Bora alleged adding that the copy of the case that was filed was missing from the court.

He also said that the ADM has asked them to file a fresh complaint and report on September 24.

“Fearing for his life, Sarkar is unable to return to Borsora. Taking advantage of the situation, Marak on Friday took away valuable stuffs from the mechanical shop of Sarkar,” the Lawyer said.

Meanwhile, Sarkar alleged that the officer in charge also collects money from all vendors in the area.

“Out of compulsion, the vendors are giving the money since they fear that they would be arrested,” Sarkar said.
