Tura College closed; Crackdown on GHSMC activists

SHILLONG: West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Pravin Bakshi has said that Tura Government College would remain closed till September 19 in the wake of the recent incident in which chairman of the Garo Hills State Movement Committee (GHSMC) took shelter at the College.

According to Bakshi, the SP of the district has ordered the sealing of the hostel which had allegedly become a place for criminal conspiracy and anti-Government/anti-people agiotators.

Meanwhile, police arrested two more persons on Saturday for violating prohibitory orders and holding meetings to organize a rally to DC office for unconditional release of the so called statehood activists.

The arrested were identified as Israel D Marak, president of TGSCU and Symon Sangma, secretary of sports, TGCSU .

Bakshi claimed that citizens are demanding MPDA against the miscreants for manhandling and holding the entire Garo Hills to ransom.
