Office picketing, night road blockade on Sept 17, 19; 24-hour bandh called on Sept 20

SHILLONG: The syndicate of pro-ILP organisations has upped the ante by calling fresh agitation in the form of office picketing and night road blockade on September 17 and 19 to be followed by a 24-hour bandh on September 20.

The night road blockade on September 17 would be effective from 7 pm to 5 am while on September 19 it would be effective from 9 pm to 5 am.

The 24-hour bandh would be effective from 5 am of September 20 till 5 am of September 21.

“We have announced the agitation since there has been no response from the State Government on our demand for implementation of the ILP in the State,” KSU vice president Frederick Kharmawphlang said here on Sunday, while adding that they decided against organising any agitation on September 18 on account of ‘Unitarian Day’.

“We endorse the demand of a section of the political parties seeking the resignation of Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma since he has forfeited his legal and moral rights to continue as the Chief Minister,” the KSU vice president said.

Kharmawphlang also accused the Chief Minister of undermining the feelings of majority people of the State who are in favour of the ILP.

He also made it clear that they would not bow down at any cost and continue their agitation until the Government complies with their demands.
