Introduce job-oriented courses: HM

JOWAI: The Kiang Nangbah Goverment College, Jowai observed its 47th foundation day on Saturday.

Home Minister, Roshan Warjri, West Jaintia hills Deputy Commissioner, Peter S Dkhar and a host of other officials besides the students and faculty members of the college were present on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, Warjri urged the college authorities to work towards introducing courses in tourism and music besides other job oriented courses which will boost the human resource scenario in mineral rich Jaintia Hills.

Warjri also lauded the college for rendering relentless service to the student community of the State for 46 years now. The Jowai Government College was established on September 15, 1967 during the tenure of late HE Pohshna – the lone legislator in the Assam Assembly from Jaintia HIlls.

Starting with only 6 teachers, the college boosts of 75 faculty members and 14 departments imparting education to 2924 students at present. The college started in a rented building at Mission Compound here and later shifted to its permanent campus.
