SHILLONG: Don Bosco Past Pupils’ Association, Shillong (DBPPAS), which has completed 81 years of its formation, held its annual rally on September 15 at the Don Bosco Technical School, Laitumkhrah.

The annual event was attended by more than 200 members hailing from within Shillong city and from rural areas.

Addressing the past pupils at the rally, chief guest of the event, Fr. L.B. Anthony, the Rector of the Don Bosco institution, urged them to be exemplary leaders in their respective fields of activity and to steadfastly uphold the spirit of Don Bosco by their exemplary lives of dedication for service of others especially for the abandoned youths and orphans in the society.

Fr. Anthony exhorted them to imbibe the spirit of Don Bosco by exemplary work culture. He drove home his exhortation by quoting Don Bosco’s famous saying, “An idle brain is the devil’s workshop.” He urged them not to forget the motto of the Past Pupils’ Association which says “Know, love, help one another and keep united”.

He further appealed to the youths to remember that since life belongs to God and it is his gift, no one has the right to take it away by abusing it in various ways or by suicide because this act is not a venial or mortal sin but it is a sacrilege.

The rally has elected a new executive body to carry out the works of the Association for the next four years. George Warjri was elected president, Rajiv Gandhi awardee Jropsing Nongkhlaw was elected vice-president, Felix Nongspung as vice-president for the youth, Felix Rani as secretary, Ronjinus Synnah as asst. secretary, Krispin Ryntong as treasurer and social secretary, Rashtriya Gaurav and Rattan Gaurav awardee Romeo Phira Rani and Philip Marweiñ as Media Secretary and GG Pariat and Teibor Shanpru as advisers. The rally has also elected 40 council members representing various units in both urban and rural areas.
