SHILLONG: Sudden closure of the branches of a Kolkata-based company, M/s ACME Service, across the North East including Meghalaya has provoked the clients and staff to file FIRs against the company accusing it of duping people.
According to the administrative officer of the company’s Shillong branch, Casper Tariang, ACME, which collected money to the tune of Rs 1.3 crore from over 557 customers in the State, directed the closure of the branch here citing bankruptcy as the reason for the move.
The company had started its operations in the State in 2008.
Tariang, however, informed that the company has refunded around Rs 70-75 lakh to the customers and another Rs 50 lakh is pending clearance.
Tariang said that as per information from his counterpart in Guwahati, the company had collected around Rs 2.2 crore from Assam.
