State karatekas win 4 medals at National Championship

SHILLONG: Four bronze medals were won by the team sent by the All Meghalaya Karate-Do Association to the All India Karate-Do Federation National Karate Championship, held in New Delhi from September 11-13.

The four medal winners are Arkinsanbhalang Mynsong (cadet boys kumite below 57kg), Banylla Shallam (girls junior kata), Raphael S Sunn (men individual kumite below 50kg) and Ronald Lyngdoh Nonglait (men individual kumite below 55kg).

Sixteen karatekas from the state took part in the competition.

Two junior karatekas, who took part for the first time in the senior categories, won medals and also qualified for the National Games, to be held in Kerala.

One cadet and one junior karateka were shortlisted among the probables in the Indian contingent for the upcoming World Championship, which will be held in Spain in December.

The Meghalaya team were led by coach Banshanlang Kharumnuid, assistant coach Minsong Rymbai and manager Ksan Kupar Warjri.
