Tiger poachers arrested

Guwahati: Two poachers were arrested and tiger bones recovered from them in northern Assam’s Sonitpur district on Monday.

The arrests were made from a char area after forest and police personnel conducted a raid based on specific information of wild animal parts trade in the area.

The raid and arrests were made from sixth addition area of Kaziranga Nationa Park limits.

The arrested have been identified as Baharul Haque and Nazim Ahmed.

Forest and police officials are interrogating the duo, as reports indicated that the poaching was a handiwork of a bigger gang.

The forest guards also recovered parts of the tiger from the char, which was poisoned and killed inside the KNP.

Meanwhile, a carcass of a young male elephant stuck in the mud was found in Kohora range of the KNP yesterday.

The body was found stuck between water hyacinth and heavy mud near Bukabil camp under Kohora range by a routine patrolling party of the Forest Protection Force Battalion. (UNI)
