SHILLONG: A fan club of BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi was formed in Shillong by social activists, well wishers and some former BJP leaders on the occasion of his 64th birthday on Tuesday.

The rising popularity of Modi and his development model has prompted some prominent citizens of the state to float Narendra Modi Fan Club.

The organization, however, does not have any political affiliation.

On the 64th birthday of Modi , fans, supporters and sympathisers of the Gujarat Chief Minister who assembled in a meeting here decided to form the Club with office bearers and executive members from different walks of life.

The members made it clear that the organization is absolutely non- political and has no connection with the BJP.

According to the members, Modi’s model of development should be emulated in Meghalaya, which is already reeling under severe leadership crisis.

The president of the Club Dondor Singh Rumnong, a social worker from Mylliem, said in a statement issued here on Tuesday that the intention of forming the fan club was to propagate in the entire state of Meghalaya the Gujarat model of development and other good works carried out by Modi.

The members of the Club have a mixed group of personalities from the cosmopolitan city.

Besides Rumnong , others who are part of the Club include Anil Hajong from Garo Hills and former BJP member Arnab Dass as vice president, Belbora Wankhar and S.S. Dutta ( general secretaries), N. Nath ( Secretary in charge publicity) and S.K. Agarwala ( treasurer )

While the Chief Advisor will be L. G. Laloo, the advisers are Basu Chakraborty and R.S. Prasad.

The executive members include Samar Sangma, Stephan Nongbet, Romeo Phira Rani, Reynold Diengdoh, S Banerjee, JM Das and JG Soanes.

The members will meet shortly to discuss about the membership drive and the ways and to popularize the development agenda of Modi.
