TURA: Heavily armed United A’chik Liberation Army militants attacked the residence of an ANVC-B cadre in Williamnagar town of East Garo Hills lobbing grenades and opening fire from automatic weapons on Monday night.

As many as 8-9 suspected UALA cadres belonging to Norrok X Momin group entered Kusimkolgre locality of Williamnagar at around 12:30 in the night and called out for ANVC-B cadre Dokrak.

When the family members failed to respond, the militants fired from AK rifles and even lobbed two powerful hand grenades, one of which exploded damaging the outside walls of the house and a parked Maruti car.

The blast triggered a huge sound wave creating panic in the locality even as police teams rushed to the spot from Williamnagar station.

The militants fled into the nearby forest and the Simsang river through which they are suspected to have crossed over to mount the attack. Police recovered the second hand grenade which was safely detonated later.

The UALA and the ANVC-B outfits have been targeting each other for several months now with both sides accusing each other of atrocities and extortion.
