Nongmynsong housing project

SHILLONG: After the Hindustan Prefab Limited abandoned the Housing Project at Nongmynsong, the Urban Affairs department is now mulling to invite fresh tenders from local entrepreneurs for the project.

Talking to The Shillong Times, Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh said that Government has asked the HPL to submit its inventory so that Government could initiate a fresh tender process.

The State government’s ambitious housing project for the urban poor has suffered a major blow when Hindustan Prefab Ltd, a Delhi-based company engaged in the project, decided to pull out due to shortage of manpower. The company was awarded the project in 2008.

While admitting that the housing scheme cannot entertain any escalation, Lyngdoh said that the State Government might seek additional funds from the Centre at a later stage since the project has been delayed by over 48 months which would result in cost overrun.
The State Government has also sought to impose a penalty on Hindustan Prefab Ltd (HPL) for failing to fulfill the promise of completing the project on time.
