Imphal: After reviewing the law and order situation in a meeting, Manipur government has decided to intensify security at Imphal and greater Imphal areas with immediate effect, official sources said on Friday.
The meeting, chaired by the Deputy Chief Minister, Gaikhangam who also holds the Home portfolio last night, discussed in detail the last Friday’s bomb blast here that killed nine labourers from outside the state and injured 12 others.
“We have taken a decision to intensify the security measures in Imphal and greater Imphal areas to prevent recurrence of such incident (Friday incident),” sources said quoting a senior police officer who attended the meeting.
Manipur DGP Mrinal Kanti Das, Principal Secretary (Home) Suresh Babu, Inspector Generals of Police, Superintendents of Police, top security officials from Assam Rifles and other para military forces attended the meeting, sources said.
The meeting also discussed the lack of infrastructe at various police stations in the state and steps would be taken to improve the infrastructural facilities at these places, sources said.
Meanwhle, a powerful improvised explosive device (IED), which was planted at a roadside, was found at Lamlai area in Imphal East district of Manipur, police said. Sources said the bomb with a remote controlled device was detected by a patrol party of police and 30th Assam Rifles personnel on Thursday, adding that it was planted by the militants to attack security and police personnel.
The bomb was later exploded by police bomb experts at a safe place, sources said. (PTI)
