BANGALORE: Having made a statement with the bat in the just-concluded India ‘A’ series, Yuvraj Singh on Friday said that he hoped to get picked in the ODI team.

“I had a fantastic tournament here (Bangalore). Hopefully it will change things for me,” he told reporters at the launch of cancer detection month by ‘YouWeCan’ and Indian Cancer Society.

“I am not here to talk about my comeback, when it is supposed to happen it will happen. I am here is for Youwecan. At the end of the day I am a cricketer and I am a fighter and survivor,” he said.

India play home series against Australia and West Indies later this year.

Yuvraj, who led India ‘A’ against West Indies ‘A’, scored 224 runs — 123, 40 and 61 — in the three-match unofficial ODI series which his side lost 1-2.

Replying to a query, Yuvraj said it was quite a battle after he was diagnosed for cancer just after the 2011 World Cup which India won. “To be honest it was hard. I am now feeling fit.”

Speaking at a press conference in Bangalore, Yuvraj Singh urged citizens to take a proactive stance in prioritising their health and opt for free screening of cancer without second thoughts.

He said Indians are more prone to cancer than ever before and hence regular or annual medical checkups should be part of everybody’s health checklist.

“Early detection of cancer is critical in saving lives. YouWeCan is here to generate awareness about cancer and facilitate its early detection,” Yuvraj said.

ICS has been conducting free screenings since 1978 and leverages well-equipped Mobile Detection Units in remote rural locations that lack access to primary health care facilities, the Society chief Kishore S Rao said.

YouWeCan, in association with Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals, launched its first Mobile Screening Unit in February which screened over 1,000 people of which 100 have been diagnosed with cancer, he said. (PTI)
