‘Challenge is to awaken God in hearts’

SHILLONG: As Catholics all over the world celebrate and thank God for the gift of Faith, Sacred Heart Theological College, Mawlai organised a Seminar entitled ‘Creating and Sustaining Conditions for Proclaiming and Living the Faith’ from September 19 to 21.

The seminar organised as part of the Platinum Jubilee Celebrations of the College was attended by as many as 215 participants.

During the solemn Inaugural Function, Archbishop Dominic Jala said that every step taken in the past had brought about far-reaching transformation today. “Therefore, there is a need to continue to help people to find fulfillment through their faith in God,” he added.

In his Keynote Address, Fr. (Dr) George Maliekal focused and elaborated on ‘A Globalised Culture and Its Implications for Proclaiming and Living Faith’.

“The opportunities (offered by globalization) are the wheels of modernization and the challenge is to awaken the nostalgia for God in human hearts…” Fr. Maliekal said.

Meanwhile, Archbishop emeritus of Guwahati Archbishop Thomas Menamparampil also enlightened the participants on the practical aspects in creating and sustaining conditions for proclaiming and living the Christian faith.

The seminar was enriched by several scholarly paper presentations based on the Scriptural, Missiological, Tribal, Multi-religious, Laity, Indian Youth and Feminine perspectives.

The erudite speakers who were also experts in their respective fields elaborated their topics on the theme of the seminar.

The floor discussions and the panel discussions contributed much in understanding the theme at the conceptual as well as the practical aspects.

The blend of all these topics definitely provided the participants with a synthetic understanding on the how to create and sustain the conditions for proclaiming and living the faith they received.
