Night road blockades begin today

SHILLONG: Movement of people and goods through Meghalaya to other North Eastern states would be affected throughout the whole week due to the night road blockade called by the pro-ILP consortium to put pressure on the Government to implement the ILP system.

The pro-ILP pool consisting of ten organisations has announced a fresh bout of agitation consisting of night road blockade from Monday to Friday, beginning at 8 pm and continuing till 5 am of the following day, and two days of office picketing on Thursday and Friday.

Considering the spate of arson-related incidents over the past weeks during such restrictions, the East Khasi Hills district administration has decided to provide police escort to the vehicles plying on the national highways in the State.

“The police have already made arrangements to providing escort to vehicles plying along the highways during the hours of the night road blockade,” East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Goyal informed on Sunday.
