Rally to mark protest against killing in GH

SHILLONG: A protest cum peace rally will be held on Tuesday from Betasing tri-junction to Ampati DC Office to register the anguish of the Hajong community over the killing of three people including two women in South West Garo Hills recently.

The GNLA had on September 17 shot dead one Sridina A Sangma, Anirud Hajong and Chandrabala Hajong at Garobadha. Jetika Hajong, the 14-year-old daughter of Sridina Sangma sustained bullet injury on her leg.

A public meeting of the Hajong community comprising All India Hajong Welfare Association, Meghlaya Hajong Welfare Association, Hajong Graduate Union, Hajong Students Union, Hajong Bhasa Vikas Parishad and Hajong Sahitya Sabha was held on Sunday at Tangabari L.P School South West Garo Hills under the chairmanship of A.K Hajong, president MHWA in this regard.

In a statement issued here, the organizations condemned indiscriminate killing and urged authorities to restore peace and normalcy in the area.

The girl child, who survived the tragic incident is still recuperating at Tura Civil Hospital and is yet to receive any financial assistance from the authorities.

Various Hajong organizations appealed to the concerned authorities to render financial help to the girl.
