SHILLONG: South Shillong Legislator and Deputy Speaker Sanbor Shullai on Sunday said that the private pathway constructed by him on the PWD road at New Kenchs’ Trace was for the benefit of the people of the locality and that it is an incomplete task which he meant to extend besides repairing of the dilapidated drains.

“The construction work is not illegal as it’s is for the benefit of the people in the locality,” Shullai said.

According to the legislator, the expenditure for the construction would be borne by him. “I am doing something good for the people of the locality and most of them are happy over the construction work,” he asserted, adding, “I intend to extend the construction by another 70 meters.”

Shullai started the construction of the pathway on the PWD road starting from his private residence. However, he said that the construction work, which is estimated at around Rs 4 lakh, was to ease people’s difficulties. The work is expected to be completed before the Puja festival.

Furthermore, Shullai pointed out that the cemented pathway would be blacktopped while stating that other stretches in the constituency would be repaired soon.
