NONGSTOIN: Unidentified miscreants set two Government offices — Executive Engineer, PWD and Meghalaya Khadi and Village Industries Board — on fire in the wee hours of Monday in West Khasi Hills district.

According to police, the first incident took place at around 12:45 am when miscreants set on fire the office of the Executive Engineer, PWD at Nongstoin. The Khadi and Village Industries Board Office was set ablaze at around 2:15am.

A major portion of the PWD office, save the Accountant’s room, was razed to the ground by the fire.

Though there was no impact on Khadi and Village Industries Board building, all the files and other important papers of the office were reduced to ashes.

The identity of the culprits remains a mystery though police recovered a petrol bomb from the ashes of the PWD office.
