Rice Intensification methods

SHILLONG: The farmers training cum awareness campaign of Integrated farming, a system of Rice Intensification (SRI) cultivation was held under the Integrated Basin Development and Livelihood Promotion Programme (IBDLP) in collaboration with agriculture department at Wilson Club, Bakrapara in Resubelpara, North Garo Hills on Monday.

Speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural programme, North Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, W Khyllep highlighted the importance of rice cultivation and its production and productivity.

He expressed his happiness that the farmers of North Garo Hills have started using machineries like power tiller, water pump, etc for rice cultivation.

He said that under the IBDLP flagship programme, which includes nine missions, the farmers would achieve the target that has been set before them adding that on reaching the target, they would prosper economically.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner also emphasized that to achieve these objectives; there is a need for coordination and cooperation between the government departments and the farmers.

During the day-long training programme, Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer, Resubelpara CK Marak imparted the training on SRI method of rice cultivation while veterinary Officer, Dr. Walme K Sangma imparted training on piggery and Sub-Divisional Fishery officer, Helparin A Sangma gave the training on fish culture.
