TURA: Giving a boost to the development of taekwondo as a mainstream sport in Garo Hills, two senior taekwondo competitors from the region bagged silver and bronze medals in the 11th Meghalaya Junior and Senior Taekwondo Championship held on September 14-15 in Shillong.

Osmond T Sangma, representing East Garo Hills Taekwondo Association and his counterpart from West Garo Hills Taekwondo Association – Krushal Cheran Momin – bagged a silver and bronze, respectively at the Championship.

While the former vied in the under-39 category, the latter competed among the under-49s.

They were then selected to represent the region in the National Championship held in Imphal.

Speaking to the media, Momin stated that he believed that their performance would help a great deal in developing the martial art in Garo Hills by motivating the youth to excel in the sport.

Informing that taekwondo combines exercise with discipline and is therefore effective in the all-round development of an individual, Momin urged interested youth to take up the martial art.
