Detailed reports on developmenmt activities in constituencies

Guwahati: Assam Chief minister Tarun Gogoi has asked for detail report on development activities being undertaken in their respective constituencies from all the ruling Congress MLAs in an apparent bid to counter voices raised by dissident party MLAs citing lack of development in their constituencies.

A source in Congress Legislature Party (CLP) informed that Gogoi has sent separate letters to all the 78 Congress MLAs in this regard.

Gogoi’s step came in the wake of at least 32 dissident Congress MLAs raising demand for holding of a special CLP meeting to discuss the issue of ‘lack of development in their constituencies during the last one year’.

The dissidence MLAs raised their demand for a special CLP meeting on September 20 last through the chief whip of the party Nilamoni Sen Deka.

Though the Chief Minister Gogoi has stated that he has no objection to holding a CLP meeting as per the demand of the 32 MLAs, the latter had no justification in raising such demand as CLP meeting is usually held under extraordinary situation and as on that nu such situation has arisen in the State.

Gogoi also pointed out that majority of the CLP members had not demanded a meeting of the legislature party.

As the dissident MLAs are trying to mount pressure on Gogoi, he has retaliated by asking detail report of development works carried out in their respective constituencies.

Gogoi has stated that any MLA with grievances can come to him and talk and added that he has met the MLAs on many occasions recently but none of them complained about lack of development works in their constituencies. He reiterated that he was willing to meet disgruntled MLAs anyday.

Regarding growing demand for reshuffle of his ministry, Gogoi stated that performance of all his ministers were satisfactory though there were some deficiencies in some ministries that needed be improved upon.
