Tripura museum to be an important place: Ansari

Agartala: Ending a long cherished dream, Vice President M Hamid Ansari on Wednesday dedicated the Tripura State Museum, Ujjayanta Palace to the people of the state here at a colourful programme.

After unveiling the museum, the Vice President along with Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and Chairman of Lalit Kala Academy KK Chakraborty visited art galleries and ancient works showcasing rich traditional culture of glorious past.

“I understand that the museum has not only changed its premises but has also embraced a new approach towards its exhibits, having adopted a broader national perspective while remaining focused on Tripura and the Northeast’, he said while addressing a public gathering to mark the occasion at Town Hall.

He said, “The Tripura State Museum, Ujjayanta Palace which is destined to serve as a respiratory of history, culture and tradition of the state and the region, will help the people better understand and appreciate the rich history, traditions, art and crafts of this mosaic of highly evolved communities.

Noting that good museums are an invaluable source of history and heritage of a people and their civilization, Ansari said they provide wealth of information and required resources for academics, researchers and students of history.

He hoped that the museum would become an important centre for showcasing the archaeological treasures, sculpture, paintings and the rich trial culture of the state.

Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, in his speech termed the event a joyous occasion and beginning of a new chapter.

Sarkar said the museum has given a special reference to the Rabindranath Tagore who had good relation with Tripura’s royal family.

“In one of the pictures, it was shown Rabindranath Tagore himself was acting in his famous play- Bisharjan in the museum”, he said urging students and teachers to visit the museum and go through every item installed in the museum.
