Lapang highlights Cong policies

NONGPOH: Giving a grand reception to Sosthenius Sohtun who joined Congress along with his 300 supporters, the Jirang Block Congress Committee (JBCC) on Saturday held a meeting at Harlibagan ground in Byrnihat, which was attended by the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee Supremo D.D Lapang as the chief guest and Shillong MP Vincent H Pala as the guest of honour.

Lapang while speaking in the programme said that, the INC was a party of ideologies and catered to the needs and requirement of the poor because Congress always sought to uplift the poor and also brought tremendous progress and development in the country through various flagship programme such as MGNREGS, PMGSY and now the Food Bills Act which will be implemented for the welfare of the people.

He also added that, the party had dynamic and foresighted leaders whose objectives were all round development of the people. He said that Sohtun was one of the dynamic leaders in the constituency and the party was very much happy to have him within the party to strengthen the working policy of the party in Jirang constituency.

Meanwhile, Pala said that, Jirang Constituency is a rich and prosperous constituency in the State but it needed leaders who are not only capable and wise but acceptable to the people leaders while referring Sohtun as the one who is fits the description.

He also stated that the INC had fostered strong links and healthy relationship with other countries, therefore there is a heavy flow of funds from Delhi to Shillong which in turn ensure all round development in the state and he also claimed that during the BJP regime there is only bankruptcy in the country.

Sohtun in his maiden speech said, that Congress is one of the leading parties in the country and it has its own powerful working policy and disciplines but he intended to join the INC since he want to strengthen his aims for rendering the better service to the people of Jirang constituency.

He also stated that, the Congress party and the leaders need to focus on all round development in every nook and corner of the state and especially in Border Areas, adding that, Jirang Constituency is one of the backward constituency in the State, he urged the congress leaders to look forward toward developing the constituency for the betterment and welfare of the people in the constituency.

Later, Sohtun was appointed as the Vice President of the Eastern Area Jirang Congress Committee during the meeting.
