Church urges parties not to use insurgents in Mizoram polls

Aizawl: Presbyterian Church of Mizo Synod on Sunday asked political parties in Mizoram not to use insurgent and armed groups during campaign for the ensuing polls in the 40-member assembly in the state. In a message, the largest church in the state also urged all political parties, candidates and campaigners not to indulge in character assassination, baseless allegations against political opponents and use muscle and money power to get elected. The church also asked voters not to support candidates indulging in purchase of votes, criminal intimidation, threats and character assassination. “Candidates living beyond their means and having movable and immovable asset disproportionate to their known sources of income are to be regarded as greedy people with corrupt mind, unfit to rule the state and the people,” the message said. Tuki lauds role of Apex Bank employees

Itanagar: ‘You are the stewards of the ship. If something goes wrong not only those travelling as passengers will drown but you will all go down too,’ cautioned Chief Minister Nabam Tuki while addressing officers and officials of the Arunachal Pradesh Cooperative Apex Bank Ltd here on Saturday. Declaring the 25th Annual General Meeting of the only state-run bank open, the Chief Minister lauded the zeal and spirit of the officials who despite facing several ups and downs have succeeded in resurrecting the bank and taking banking facilities to the rural people. Hinting at the ‘bad phase’ that the bank had to pass in recent years, he strictly advised that mistakes of the past should not be repeated at any cost. Expressing full confidence on the team of officials, Tuki earnestly urged for timely recovery of loans from borrowers. He said that because of defaulters the bank was facing hardships in maintaining checks and balances and therefore special focus had to be given to loan recovery process. The Annual General Meeting also coincided with the bank’s completion of 35 years in public service. To commemorate the occasion Tuki launched the Core Banking Solution (CBS) of the bank, which will now provide facilities like NEFT and RTGS to its customers. (UNI)

Nagaland Governor administers oath to NPSC Members

Kohima: Nagaland Governor Dr. Ashwani Kumar administered the ‘Oath of Office and Secrecy’ to the Chairman and Members of the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC) on Friday at Raj Bhavan Kohima. According to official sources, the oath taking ceremony was conducted by the Nagaland Chief Secretary Alemtemshi Jamir. The five NPSC members administered the oath of Secrecy and to service were Kuhupoyo Puro as NPSC Chairman and the Members are A. Yanang Konyak, Nungsanglemba Chang, Fury Putsure, Chipeni Merry and the date of their taking over the charges respectively. The official function was attended by Additional Chief Secretary and Finance Commissioner, Toshi Aier; Special Secretary, Home, I. Singsit; Commissioner and Secretary, Planning and Coordination, Urban Development, Mhonbemo Patton; Secretary to the Governor, T. Ao aoung other IPR officials and Raj Bhavan officials. (UNI)
