Ampati, Jowai to have engineering colleges

SHILLONG: The Chief Minster’s constituency Ampati will get the first Government run engineering college under the scheme of special plan assistance from the Centre.

Ampati is also the headquarter of the newly created South West Garo Hills.

However, other three newly created districts are yet to be allotted any major educational projects.

Besides Ampati,Jowai which is the constituency of Deputy Chief Minister in charge Education RC Laloo was also chosen for setting up of another engineering college.

Laloo told reporters that the initial amount earmarked for both the engineering colleges at Ampati and Jowai is Rs 10 crore reach. The land will be allotted free of cost for setting up of the engineering colleges.

At present, the Polytechnics are offering only diploma courses in engineering.

The State Government is also planning to set up one each polytechnic in Ri Bhoi,West Khasi Hills and South Garo Hills and Rs 3 crore has been earmarked for this.
