SHILLONG: The State NCP has decided to field candidates from both Shillong and Tura seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections due in 2014.
Informing this here on Tuesday, the party spokesperson, Constantine N Thma, said NCP would also contest in the upcoming elections to the three district councils in the State.
Interestingly, Tura Lok Sabha is being held by Agatha Sangma, who contested the last Lok Sabha polls on an NCP ticket, and is likely to seek re-election on an NPP ticket.
The decision to this effect was taken when a delegation of the State NCP met Union Minister for Industries and & Public Enterprise, Praful Patel, in Guwahati recently.
The State NCP leaders discussed at length the party’s plans and strategies for the forthcoming Lok Sabha and district council elections.
Meanwhile, Patel, who is also NCP’s general secretary incharge of North Eastern states, will visit Shillong in November to lay the foundation stone of the party’s office. During his visit to Shillong, he is scheduled to felicitate members of different political parties who would be joining the party.
