Naga Hoho against formation of NTC

Kohima: The Naga Hoho (NH) has asserted that the formation of the Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) ‘is premature’ and ‘not appropriate for the Naga society at this juncture, when the Nagas are struggling for social and political fraternity’. In a statement jointly issued by its President Keviletuo Kiewhuo and Assistant General Secretary Nikhrolo Khalo said a consultative meeting of the Naga Hoho held with ‘adequate representatives’ from the Ao, Angami, Chakhesang, Kyong, Sumi, Pochury and Zeliangrong tribe hohos on September 28 in Kohima. They said the September 28 meeting ‘unanimously resolved to reaffirm’ the resolution passed earlier at the May 3 last consultative meeting at Kohima and subsequent resolution no. 4 of the federal assembly on June 28 at Kohima on the above. Naga Hoho said if it was ‘necessary to form NTC’ then it should be ‘thoroughly discussed and initiated by the tribe hohos and not from any individual imposing their will and interest upon the mandated tribe hohos’. Rhino carcass found

Kaziranga (Assam): The carcass of a male rhino was recovered by forest guards and extensive combing operations were on following sounds of gun shots being heard in two different ranges of Kaziranga National Park on Wednesday. Patrolling forest guards found the carcass of the adult male rhino, suspected to have died a natural death near Daflang camp in Bagori range of the Park. The horn of the rhino was found intact, park officials said. In another incident, forest guards heard six rounds of firing near Arikhati camp of Agratoli range and a massive combing operations was launched by forest protection force and police personnel to nab suspected poachers, the sources said. Insurgent sympathiser arrested from Indo-Myanmar border

Imphal: A sympathiser of major insurgent organisation, United National Liberation Front, has been arrested by para-military forces from the Indo-Myanmar border in Chandel district, official sources said opn Wednesday. The 40-year-old UNLF sympathiser, Kh Ratan Meitei was arrested by Assam Rifles personnel during a search at ward number 7 in the border town of Moreh Tuesday, the sources said. A powerful hand-grenade of Chinese make was seized from him. He was handed over to the police. (PTI)

Nagaland observes National Voluntary Blood Donation Day

Kohima: The National Voluntary Blood Donation Day on the theme ‘Voluntary Blood Donation will cost you nothing but it will save a life’ was held on Tuesday at Kohima College Auditorium Kohima. Col. Prem Prakash, Group Commander, NCC, Group Headquarters Kohima as the chief guest exhorted the young leaders of the country to lead the way by small favour of donating blood where blood has no colour and social taboos despite of many religion and culture. Prakash also called upon the youths to be proactive in spreading the awareness of donating blood and urged the people to donate blood rather than shed blood. He appreciated a farmer Lhuvesho Lohe who came all the way from Chozuba village has been donating blood voluntarily counting up to 14 times so far. The Advisor of the Voluntary Blood Donors’ Association, Kohima (VBDAK) K. V. Nurumi said that the main objective of the day was to increase awareness among the people of the country the importance of blood donation; to achieve cent per cent voluntary blood donation; to enable to give safest blood to the needy patients; to have enough stock in our blood banks for any eventuality; to give thanks and reinforce the self esteem of those who donate blood voluntarily so that they continue to do so regularly; to inspire those who has not donated blood but are in good health to start donating blood; to inspire those donors who donate blood only for their relatives or friends to also donate voluntarily. N’land BJP submits memo to Guv

Kohima: The Nagaland State BJP unit with a three-member delegation, met Nagaland Governor, Dr Ashwani Kumar on Monday last at Raj Bhavan, Kohima and apprised him on the Indo- Naga political issue, the Assam- Nagaland border issue, Article 371(A) and financial issues related to the State. According to a press statement issued by K. James Vizo, the General Secretary and Spokesman for BJP Nagaland, informed that the Governor had communicated that his top priority is the welfare of the people and upholding the Constitution of India. He further stated that education, employment and infrastructure building such as Roads-under Border Road Organization and National Highway, Railways, and Communication of BSNL should improve in their performance. The Governor further assured that he would take the matter to appropriate authorities at the Centre. (UNI)
