Kohima: Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC), the nascent forum for all Naga tribes of Nagaland state, has reiterated that its formation and nomenclature, clearly defined the ambit of its jurisdiction, to be ‘within the state of Nagaland’.
In a press communiqué, the NTC stated, that it has categorically declared its aims and objective- to promote, protect and preserve the social fabric and cultural heritage of its communities, foster a sense of unity, fraternity and brotherhood among the Naga tribes of Nagaland. NTC was reacting to the Naga Hoho’s stand that formation of NTC was premature and not appropriate for the Naga society, at a juncture when the ‘Nagas are struggling for social and political fraternity’. The NTC clarified that its formation would neither dilute nor deter the Naga struggle form of social and political fraternity.
The NTC said its goal was to strengthen the already existing bonds with Nagas of Nagaland and to cater to the needs of Nagas ‘ at this juncture of diverse and multifarious expectations’. Responding to Naga Hoho, NTC said it was formed after wide ranging consultation with various leaders of tribes in Nagaland who yearned for ‘such a platform for Nagas of Nagaland.’ Therefore, NTC said there was no way that its formation infringed or downgraded upon the authority of already existing and recognized organisation but ‘simply a fulfillment of the people’s aspirations’.
Further, in several of its publications, NTC had stated that it was ‘purely a civil organizations of like minded Nagas of Nagaland’ who minutely deliberated and brought about collective agendas for social uplift of all Naga citizens of Nagaland. Therefore, it said ‘Naga Hoho, which is a pan-Naga organizations, should not obstruct the formation of NTC’. It was reiterated that by its formation and through its agenda and objectives, NTC would never hinder, disturb or impede any existing social organizations. Instead, NTC said it would work in a manner to foster cooperation and solidarity with all recognized groups and organizations and committed to uplift and strengthen the all-round capacity of all Nagas of Nagaland.
Meanwhile, NTC sources disclosed that NTC would also focus on social concerns through a cooperative effort with various sections of society in Nagaland. The sources said NTC was already in the process of holding a series of consultations in order to effectively address such issues. (UNI)
