SHILLONG: HSPDP legislator from Nongkrem, Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit, has urged upon the State Government to enhance the remuneration of the muster rolls in the PWD and PHED.

“The remuneration which is being paid to various categories of muster rolls is too low considering the prevailing high cost of living,” Basaiawmoit said during Question Hour of the Assembly’s Autumn Session here on Friday.

Replying to the query, PWD Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar informed that the daily wage fixed for the unskilled labour is Rs 100, semi-skilled labour Rs 120 and skilled labour is 140.

The Nongkrem legislator cited the example of Mizoram in support of his demand.

“The daily wage fixed for the unskilled labourer in Mizoram is Rs 170 while that of a semi-skilled and skilled labourer is Rs 240 and Rs 300 respectively,” Basaiawmoit said, adding, “I would like to know if the government intends to raise the daily wages of the muster rolls in the State.”

In reply, the PWD Minister said the government was examining the proposal to hike the wages of the muster rolls.

Under the proposal, the daily wages of an unskilled labourer would be hiked to Rs 160, semi-skilled labourer to Rs 178 and that of a skilled labourer to Rs 185.

Earlier, the PWD Minister informed that there are 5260 muster rolls in his department while Deputy Chief Minister in charge of PHE department, Prof. RC Laloo, informed that his department has 4857 muster rolls.
