Claims of Congress MLAs supporting ILP in State

SHILLONG: Congress working president and Cabinet Minister, Deborah Ch Marak, has rejected the Opposition claims that certain party legislators were in support of implementing the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the State.

Rubbishing the claims of leaders of Opposition parties, Ms Marak said that they (opposition leaders) had no proof that some Congress members are supporting the ILP demand since and all party MLAs have supported the party decision.

Marak also reminded that the Congress Legislature party (CLP) had endorsed its complete support to Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma who has been quite vocal against ILP.

She pointed out that the Congress-led MUA-II Government is coming up with an alternative law in the form of the Tenancy Act which would go a long way in solving the problem of influx.

To a question on whether the opposition members were indulging in more personal attacks than political attacks, she said that the Opposition members were playing their role as the opposition.

The MPCC working president also appealed the NGOs not to disturb the upcoming festival, saying that “the festival belongs to everybody”.

It may be mentioned here that HSPDP leader Ardent Basaiawmoit had recently claimed that some Congress MLAs were supporting the ongoing agitation of the pro-ILP pressure groups.
