SHILLONG: The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) Southern Riwar Zone has overlooked the problems cited by the local guides and traditional heads of various tourist spots of the State stating that the need of the hour is to focus on the protection of the indigenous people and their land after which tourism will follow suit.

Brushing aside claims made by the local youth of Sohra and Shella on the adverse effect if ILP is implemented in the State, the general secretary of the FKJGP Southern Riwar Zone Ksanboklang Kharshiing said that the claims are baseless and untrue even as terming them as ‘Destroyers the sense of Collective Responsibility’.

“A move to protect our people now and for generations to come is the foremost issue which should be taken into consideration and the same could be achieved through the implementation of the ILP,” Kharshiing said while impressing on the need to keep the community at the forefront while tourism at the later part.
