SHILLONG: The Khun Hynñiewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) has expressed happiness over the unity shown by the members of the opposition party in demanding the speaker of the house to allow them to discuss the adjournment motion on Inner Line Permit and the law and order situation during the 1st day of the Autumn session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly on Friday.
The Friday session saw legislators of the UDP, HSPDP, NPP coming GNC storming into the well of the House, gheraoed the Assembly Speaker AT Mondal for not allowing them to discuss the adjournment motion on ILP.
According to a release issued here on Sunday, president of KHNAM Adelbert Nongrum said “We are glad to see legislators belonging to different political parties uniting as one to fight for a chance to debate on the much-needed issue to be discussed for the welfare of the state and its people.”
Nongrum also hoped that the leaders would stay united and to continue fighting for this cause with great enthusiasm and concern for the betterment of the people of the state while urging the members of the opposition to continue pressing the house over the issue of ILP.
Terming the congress legislators under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma as ‘Mukul Ugly Alliance (MUA)’, Nongrum said such legislators serve not the people but the MUA government and thereby called upon the legislator to start thinking on their own and follow the examples of the Human Resource Development minister Pallam Raju and union tourism minister K. Chiranjeevi, for their sensitivity towards their people and for their courage to go against the decision of the union cabinet to divide Andhra Pradesh to create Telangana state.
The KHNAM has also appealed to all the people of the State to support the representatives at the opposition party, encouraging them to take up people-oriented issues and also to extend their support to the 10 NGOs who are still agitating demanding for the implementation of ILP in the State.
