SHILLONG: Many consumers have expressed their discontentment over the point delivery of LPG Cylinders, a move which was taken by the Indian Oil Corporation, Deputy Commissioner and Gas Agencies to clear the backlog.
On Saturday, a huge queue of consumers was seen at Jhalupara and people had to wait for almost an hour to get their refilled cylinders during the delivery of LPG Cylinders.
Apart from standing in queue, the viable option is hiring the ‘Coolies’ who demand exorbitant sums of money to drop the LGPs to the respective homes.
East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner (Supply) Sanjay Goyal said that point delivery of LPG was initiated for a few months to clear the backlog and now the backlog of almost all the gas agencies is cleared.
“The backlog was 7000-8000 bit now it’s almost cleared,” he said.
The Deputy Commissioner is all set to have a review meeting next week with IOC and gas agencies to discuss if the old home delivery system can be revert back.
“We would like to revert back to the home delivery,” Goyal said while adding that home delivery is always a challenge in hilly areas since some time one has to go deep inside a locality to deliver the cylinders.
He pointed out that consumers had also complained of late delivery when home delivery system was in existence.
It is learnt that Mecofed Gas Agency which has less number of customers have already cleared their backlog and they have even reverted back to home delivery of LPG cylinders.
