SHILLONG: Meghalaya Police earned their first victory in the ongoing Shillong Premier League on Monday by beating Pohkseh 2-1 at the JN Stadium, Polo.

The Police team have endured five straight defeats in the SPL, but Monday finally saw them return to winning ways against Pohkseh.

There were no goals in the first half, but Milton Kharsati opened the scoring in the 68th minute.

MLP’s lead was then doubled four minutes later through Donbok Khymdeit, who, like Kharsati, have both represented Meghalaya at the state level.

Incidentally, MLP had scored just one goal in their previous five matches.

Defenderson Pomthiah scored his second goal of the tournament to reduce the margin for Pohkseh in the 80th minute and although his team pressed for the equaliser, the match ended 2-1.

This was Pohkseh’s fourth defeat in the tournament and their third in a row.

They remain in sixth place with four points, now just one ahead of MLP.

Mawlai are at the bottom of the standings with zero points from their five games.

Rangdajied United continue to lead with six wins from six, followed by defending champions Royal Wahingdoh, with 13 points from six matches.
