Arunachalee shuttler to represent India
Itanagar: Arunachalee shuttler Laa Talar will represent India at Badminton Asia Championship starting on Tuesday in Kudos, Indonesia. Talar is among four Indian players selected to participate in the Boys U-17 singles in the six-day championship. The players have been selected by the Badminton Association of India on the basis of their national ranking on September 18, the Arunachal State Badminton Association (ASBA) said in a release here on Monday. ASBA expressed hope that Talar would maintain his spirit and tempo to bring more laurels for Arunachal Pradesh by winning a medal in the championship. Talar won bronze medal in U-19 category at Wimbledon Junior International Badminton Championship held in London last month. The team left New Delhi on Sunday for Indonesia. (PTI)
Rana 1st in Raid de Himalaya
Kaza (Himachal): Seven-time Raid de Himalaya champion Suresh Rana grabbed the pole position in the four-wheeler extreme category at the end of the second leg of the event here on Monday. After a hiccup during the first leg, Rana dished out an impressive show of rally driving by overtaking Amanpreet Ahluwalia, who surprised everyone by taking the lead at the end of the first leg. Rana finished the leg with a timing of 3 hours 13 minutes 43 seconds, exactly four minutes faster than Amanpreet, who clocked 3 hours 17 minutes 43 seconds. In the two-wheeler extreme category, it was a one-man show. Austrian biker Helmut finished at the top after clocking 3 hours 9 minutes 59 seconds, ahead of Indian biking star CS Santosh, who finished in second in 3 hours 19 minutes 04 seconds. The second leg of the rally is considered as one of the most gruelling as it traversed through some of the most rocky roads. This leg also witnessed the breakdown of three cars in the adventure category. (PTI)
Tendulkar hints at future role at MI
New Delhi: He might have played his last Twenty20 game in the Champions League with Mumbai Indians, but Sachin Tendulkar has dropped hints that he could be part of MI team management in the next IPL season. Asked if he could be sitting in the MI dugout in some other role, Tendulkar said, “As of now, I don’t know. We’ve just won this tournament and I want to enjoy this moment. There are still good six months (before the next IPL) and I am sure something will come along till then. I am actually looking forward to the next season because I have been part of MI for six years now and it has been an experience I have really enjoyed,” he was quoted as saying by the official CLT20 website. He said winning the IPL and CLT20 made him feel that he has accomplished his dreams. “When the IPL season started, we wanted to win it so bad. The team has done beautifully since then and the end result has been fantastic,” said the 40-year-old. (PTI)
