SHILLONG: Members of the All Khasi Hills Nokma Welfare Association along with headmen and secretaries of various Garo villages in West Khasi Hills have resolved to appeal to the State Government to recall its decision on setting up of an elephant reserve in West Khasi Hills.

“We will not give our land to the State Government for the elephant reserve forest. We all know that the Government has already acquired land at Balpakram National Park; so there is no need for more land for elephants,” the Nokma body said, while seeking to know whether elephants were more important for the Government than human beings.
