Bengaluru retain top spot

Bangalore/Pune: John Johnson and Sean Rooney scored a goal each in the first half as Bengaluru FC beat Mohammedan Sporting 2-1 in their I-League encounter at the Bangalore Football Stadium on Thursday.

Joshimar D’Silva pulled one back for the visitors in the second session.

With this win, Bengaluru FC move to 10 points from four matches to stay on top of the points table while the newly-promoted Kolkata outfit are yet to open their account after three matches.

Meanwhile, Pune FC moved up to second position with a 2-0 victory over Mohun Bagan at the Balewadi Sports Complex.

In their first home match of the season, Pune scored both their goals in the second half.

Thongkhosiem Haokip (72nd minute) and James Meyer (81st) were the goal-scorers.

Bagan’s Anyichie Echezona had been sent off before the goals were scored.

The Mariners have just two points from three games, tied with Churchill Brothers and Rangdajied United FC. (PTI)
