JOWAI: As many as 420 Class XII students in East Jaintia Hills were presented with a mobile tablet each as part of the State Government’s Digital Learning Aid for Students Scheme at a function held at the Khliehriat Higher Secondary School on Thursday.
The function was jointly organized by the District Administration and the Office of the District Education Officer.
Parliamentary Secretary in charge Education, who was the chief guest on the occasion, said, “In the present world of advanced technology and computer era, students must be equipped with such materials to help them in their studies”.
“When I was in school, we simply used slate and chalk to write but now the time has changed as students are using tablet computers,” Dkhar added.
Principal of Jaintia Eastern College, Dr. Phervision Nongtdu, while appreciating the government initiative under the leadership of Dr. Mukul Sangma, said, “The digital tool will help our students in their learning process”.
He urged the students not to misuse the gadgets but to utilize them as important learning aid.
“This is not a tool for music or video but it’s a tool to help you learn more effectively if you utilize them properly,” Dr. Nongtdu said.
Students from Jaintia Eastern College, Khliehriat, Holy Cross Higher Secondary School, Umkiang, Sutnga Presbyterian Higher Secondary School, Rymbai Presbyterian Secondary School and Khliehriat Higher Secondary School, were presented with the mobile tablets on the occasion.
The function was chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner, SC Laloo while East Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner WR Lyngdoh welcomed all present at the function. Principal of Khliehriat Higher Secondary School, Rev. Fr. M Thongni, also spoke on the occasion.
