SHILLONG: The Mait Shaprang Movement (MSM) is contemplating the launch of a massive campaign if the State Government refrains from bringing in a strong Lokayukta Act.
Mait Shaprang Movement (MSM) convenor and RTI activist Michael Syiem said, “If the Government remains adamant we may launch a campaign as was done in the case of RTI Act.”
The MSM leader along with other NGOs have been demanding for a stronger Lokayukta Act to deal with the growing instances of corruption in the State.
It may be mentioned that certain amendments were brought into the Act in the autumn session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly. However, Michael Syiem said that the amendments were brought about without any conclusive discussions and debates which reflect the adamant attitude of the Government in dealing with corruption.
