TURA: Suspected United A’chik Liberation Army (UALA) militants abducted a villager and later shot him dead in cold blood in Nangalbibra region of South Garo Hills on Friday night.

A group of armed militants barged into the house of Milard Marak (30) at Nengbrak village around 10 pm and took him away. His bullet-ridden body was recovered the next day 5 kms away from a jungle in Jongsingittim, near Nangalbibra. Several empty AK ammo cases were recovered from the spot.

“We are yet to ascertain the reason behind the killing but the deceased use to work as a labourer in the coal mines during the coal mining season,” said police from South Garo Hills.

Police strongly suspect the involvement of the UALA outfit headed by former ANVC-B action commander Singbirth N Marak alias Norrok X Momin because armed cadres of his group have been reportedly sighted in Nangalbibra region and security forces have been on their trail for the past few days.
