Jammu: Pakistan troops fired at Indian positions in the Mendhar sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district Saturday evening, a defence spokesman said.

“Pakistani troops fired at our positions without provocation in Barasingha area of Krishna Ghati sector and Bimar Gali. The Pakistani Army used small arms, automatic weapons and mortars. Our troops retaliated strongly using similar-calibre weapons. No damage or casualties occurred on our side. The exchange of firing started at 6.30 p.m. and continued till 8.30 p.m. today (Saturday). India and Pakistan signed a ceasefire agreement in Nov 2003 but Pakistan has been repeatedly violating this for long. (IANS)
