SHILLONG: After a more-than-impressive run of four victories in four group games, Tyrsad Hr Sec School, representing Meghalaya, lost in the semifinals of the under-17 girls Subroto Cup football tournament to Government Senior Secondary School, Haryana, 0-4 in New Delhi on Tuesday.
Nisha, the Haryana striker, scored a hat-trick after Jyoti kicked off proceedings early with a goal in the third minute.
Haryana will face RMSM Vidyalaya from Bishnupur, Manipur, in the final on Thursday.
Tyrsad did not trouble their rivals much and Haryana could have easily scored a couple of more goals but for some good saves by Meghalaya custodian Mihban Mashli.
The Meghalaya school have been under additional pressure after five of their 16-member squad were disqualified for being over the prescribed age, leaving the team with just 11 players.
On Sunday, Meghalaya thrashed an Air Force school from Delhi 11-0, to round off their triumphant Pool D campaign.
However, when faced against Pool C champions Haryana, the Tyrsad girls could not quite rise to the occasion, perhaps due to fatigue brought on by the near continuous matches and smaller squad available.
Pynhun Chulet has been the star of the team, scoring upwards of 15 goals in the tournament.
Football being a team game, there were many others who made Meghalaya’s victories possible, however, including Felicia Fancon, Idashisha Mawlong and Iawanlang Nongbet.
Assam boys shock Ukraine
Meanwhile, Magurmari High School, Kokrajhar, Assam, scripted the biggest upset of the tournament so far with a 4-1 victory over hot favourites Troeschina of Kiev, Ukraine, to enter the U-17 boys semifinal here on Tuesday.
Devide Basumatary (35th), Inngbla Brahma (40th min), Kapil Kumar Ray (47th min) and Josef Ekka (70th min) scored for Assam. Maxim Koshelev (45th min) reduced the margin for Ukraine.

Mizoram dominated proceedings and could have scored at least a couple of goals in the opening 15 minutes.
The Assam defence, which had not conceded any goals during their journey to the final, held firm to deny their rivals the lead in the first half.
They conceded early in the second, but then equalised before Mizoram secured the winner later.
