Auto driver kidnaps, rapes minor girl

SHILLONG: One 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by one Teileng Syiem (26) at a cemetery at Diwon Umden in Ri Bhoi district on Tuesday.
According to the police, the accused, who is an auto driver, kidnapped a Class IX student and took her to a cemetery where he committed the crime in broad day light at around 11 am.
Sources informed that the accused had been brought up by the victim’s family since his childhood and two years back, he had decided to move on with his life and became an auto driver after parting ways with his foster family.
Narrating the incident, police sources informed that the victim was returning from her friend’s house when she got into the auto without any fear and suspicion since she knew the accused. However, the accused tried to molest the girl inside the auto. The girl, however, managed to escape after putting up a fight, but could not go far as the accused forcibly pulled her into his auto rickshaw and took her to the cemetery and sexually assaulted her.
A complaint was lodged on Tuesday itself after which the accused was arrested on Wednesday morning at around 10.30 am and was later presented in the court.
