SHILLONG: Malki SC displayed quiet confidence as they breezed to a 4-1 victory over Nangkiew Irat in the 28th match of the Shillong Premier League at the JN Stadium, Polo, on Wednesday.
Man-of-the-Match Samson Nongrum opened the scoring in the 16th minute, with Timmy Ryngkhlem (29th) adding another to make it 2-0.
This match was a battle for third place in the standings, with Malki ahead of Nangkiew by just a point before the game.
Suresh Singh then pulled one back for Nangkiew just before half time.
In the second half, Malki were the more dominant side and Ronnie Nongbri (55th) and Debinroy Nongspung (82nd) scored a goal each to make it 4-1.
Both teams could have added further goals, but the chances went abegging.
Malki now have 14 points from seven games, two behind Royal Wahingdoh, who have 16. Nangkiew have 10 and are in fourth place.
Thursday’s match has been postponed due to the call for a 24-hour shutdown in the state, but Friday will see a return to action when leaders Rangdajied United face MLP.
