Nagaland observes World Food Day

Kohima: Nagaland Directorate of Agriculture was observed ‘World Food Day’ on the theme for the year 2013 ‘Sustainable Food System for Food Security and Nutrition’.

According to official sources today the aim of the day is to strengthen national and international solidarity in the fight to end hunger, malnutrition and poverty.

N Tekatushi, Director of Agriculture, who gave the key-note address deliberated on strategy and the use of scientific technology to increase yield and achieve ‘Vision 2025 Food for All’ yesterday said that around two Lakh and nineteen thousand people go hungry everyday in the world and therefore emphasized the need to adopt sustainable model of development to tackle hunger and malnutrition.

He also made an appeal to the farmers to save grain through proper utilisation and to work more sincerely and adopt modern technology to increase production.

A pledge was read out by all members present and a minute silence was observed for fellow citizens who are hungry and undernourished. The function also advocated creating awareness among the people to avoid
